Injustice: Gods Among Us Game Review

Injustice: Gods Among Us takes old school Mortal Combat and gives it an interesting twist. Instead of the traditional characters fighter style characters, we are given DC superheroes and super villains . The character design and representation are nearly spot on and with new characters created as DLC, there’s always an opportunity to play as your favorite Justice League member or dastardly villain.
Each character has their own list of moves and combos, which can be difficult for those who are against button-mash but become easy enough to learn once the effort is put in. Though unfortunately, some of the characters’ special moves barely do anything to help you win your battle. The character might switch weapons or his/her move can consist on them slashing at nothing with a knife in the Joker’s case. That does not mean that the attention to detail isn't there. In the Joker’s move set he can wield a crowbar that does some serious damage, just like in the comics. In some cases the character can switch the weapon they are using, such as Wonder Woman who goes from the famous lasso to a shield and sword or Nightwing who goes from eskrima sticks to a bow staff. The game also features the ability to use the surroundings from each map to aid in the fight. Though, what can be manipulated on the map changes depending on the character. Harley Quinn isn't going to be able to pick up an enormous globe anytime soon.

The only real downfalls in this game can be seen in the on screen directions. If you don’t have an abnormally large TV, you might find yourself squinting to read what new content just came out. In the case of the storyline it’s slightly confusing to which universe you are in and which character you are, with there only being slight costume differences between the same characters. Another fault of the game is the reaction commands meant to be used against your opponent in the story line. The reaction commands can be nearly impossible to accomplish. If a mistake is made you can continue to play the next fight, but you take a bit of damage that can set you back. The game is full of positives and with there only being a few negatives, its hard to call this game just another Mortal Combat copy.
I would give this game a  9 out of 10.
